For Assignment 8, I analyzed the relationship between snowfall and car accident in the Onondaga county. This is based on my personal experience – whenever it snows, I have a huge fear of car accident. But is it only me? Or is there really a causal relationship between snow and car accident?
The data from Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network as well as NYS DMV say the answer is “yes.” The following graph also shows that when it snows more, there are more car accidents. Of course there could be other factors affecting the number of car accidents, such as the day (i.e. more car accidents on Thursdays and Fridays). But clearly, there is a link between snowfall and car accidents – so we should drive more safely when it snows!
