New York State will fund the Syracuse Bomb Squad $95,000. Governor Cuomo announced $2 million in funding for FBI-accredited bomb squads across the state. Syracuse and Onondaga County represent the smallest portions of the budget. New York City was given the largest allocation of money at $463,360. The Central New York area will be given a total amount of $285,000.
The money will be used to make sure bomb squads across the state are prepared and have response capabilities, Division of Homeland Security John Melville said. Bomb squads are required to review capabilities and gaps, the governor’s office said.
“When it comes to protecting New York from would-be terrorists, we must be tough, smart and prepared,” Senator Chuck Schumer said.
