Which Industries Are Claiming the Most Jobs in Central New York?

The government seems to be the most attractive sector to job seekers in Central New York, lapping up over 65,000 jobs in 2015, an increase from a little over 61,000 in 2014. The government has a lead by nearly 15,000 over the next best-performing sector, health care and social assistance.

Mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction is at the bottom of the list, claiming 239 jobs in 2015, with a little over twenty jobs added from 2014. Jobs in agriculture, fishing and forestry and unclassified industries lagged behind and opportunities in finance and insurance stagnated between 2012 and 2015 as well.

Educational services saw a large boost of nearly 6000 jobs between 2014 and 2015. Transportation and warehousing, and construction added over 2000 jobs each as well.

Sectors that saw increases over 2012 to 2015 also included arts, recreation and entertainment and professional, scientific and technical services.
