Assignment 3

This map shows the Hot Spots of where the events, as well as the parade route for Fat Tuesday, that the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure club will be having during the 2018 Mardi Gras season. Zulu is the oldest and largest Black organization, or Krewe, that rides for Mardi Gras. Being the first parade on Fat Tuesday, Zulu is one of the largest parades with the most floats, even more than allowed in some years. Zulu is also known for the prized possession of Mardi Gras, the Zulu coconut!

Zulu’s parade goes through a traditional route along St. Charles Street, Lee Circle and also Canal Street but also passes through neighborhoods in the Black community before and after the traditional streets, eventually ending at the Zulu Club where the party continues. There are those who walk the entire route, which is tiring, although riding on the float is not as easy as it looks. The floats can be crowded, depending on how many people are aboard and how many bags of throws each person has. By the end of the parade and Mardi Gras season Zulu members take a few days to rest and then they begin planning for their next Mardi Gras season.
